CALL TO ACTION: The Land Bank Bill Needs Your Support
HB 1974, the Land Bank Bill, needs your support! Please let the Senate know our community supports this important tool to improve housing development and access. If passed, this bill would create a statewide framework allowing counties to establish land banking authorities. Land Banks are a proven strategy for creating more housing that’s affordable and accessible.
HB 1974 would improve housing access by:
· Counties authorizing a land bank — a public corporation, housing authority, or qualifying nonprofit — to operate county‑wide for acquiring and managing land.
· Allowing land banks these entities to buy, hold, improve and develop land for public benefit (primarily housing)
· Requiring land banks to focus on affordable housing and anti-displacement
· Creating a grant program and providing tax exemptions
